This week I want to introduce a song that I’ve recently discovered. This song is called Sunflower by Shannon Purser. I discovered this song in a movie called Sierra Burgess is a Loser. This movie was about a girl who never fit in highschool and was always bullied because of her looks. She was bullied by the most popular girls in school, until one day where the leader of the most popular group of girls in school was asked for her number by a quarterback of another school. Veronica, the leader of the group wasn’t interested, and gave the guy Sierra Burgess’s number instead of her own. In the end of the movie, where he finds out what has happened, she comes up with this song to show how she was sorry.
This song I feel is a really cute song that doesn’t have cuss words or sexual activity like other songs these days. It talks how she is a sunflower and unwanted when there are other flowers out there like roses, where I guess are the superior flowers because they’re beautiful like the other people in this world. There’s this one lyric I like, “Rose goes in glass vases perfect bodies, perfect bodies, perfect faces. They all belong in magazines those girls the boys are chasing,” and “but I’m a sunflower a little funny,” and I really like those lyrics because everybody has been in that position where they feel like they’re ugly or not good enough, but they are beautiful in every way including their body shape, skin color, race, nationality, ancestry, their language, or how they dress. Just about anything. I prefer sunflowers anyway because of how tall they are and how they face the sun always, like they’re looking for the good things in this world.
If any of you guys get a chance to listen to this song I highly recommend it. It’s a sweet, short song that everyone can like and relate to. I highly would recommend it to all the teens out there wanting a sweet little song to help cure their broken heart or want something to lift their spirits. ❤
